# Add your own Deepgram key Bring your own Deepgram API key so your Wani voice agent's live calls and speaker voice bill to your own account instead of Automix's shared default. _Takes about 10 minutes._ ## Before you start > **Before you start** > > You need a Deepgram account with an API key. A free Deepgram account is enough to generate a key; whether your call volume needs a paid Deepgram plan depends on your own usage, which this guide does not estimate. > > [Deepgram signup](https://console.deepgram.com/signup) ## 1. Why this key is different from the other voice keys Deepgram is the only engine whose voice can actually speak on a live call -- it is available on every tier including Free, because the product's own trial promise is minutes on the deployment's Deepgram key. Bringing your own key here does more than swap a voice: it moves the live call itself onto your own Deepgram account. ## 2. Get your API key from Deepgram Sign in (or sign up) at the Deepgram Console. Open the API Keys section and create a new key. Copy it immediately -- treat it like a password, as you will not be able to see it in full again. Environment variables: `DEEPGRAM_API_KEY` ## 3. Add the key to your Wani agent Paste the key into your Wani agent's voice provider settings. Under the hood this calls the voice credentials endpoint for the 'deepgram' provider; the key is stored per-workspace, encrypted, and never shared with any other workspace. ## 4. How this fits with Automix's own shared key Automix runs a shared Deepgram key so every tier, including Free, can place a call before you configure anything. Once you add your own key, Wani always prefers your workspace's key over the shared one for every call your agent makes -- this is not a toggle you set separately, and usage moves onto your own Deepgram account rather than the deployment's. ## 5. Your key is never shown again Once saved, no screen or API response ever displays the key again -- only whether one is set. If you lose track of which key is active, the only way to be sure is to save a new one. ## 6. Remove your key Delete your workspace's key at any time. Once removed, Wani falls back to Automix's shared Deepgram key for this provider, and your ten-minute trial allowance governs usage again if it has not been exhausted. ## Next - [Add a Sarvam key for Indian languages](/docs/wani/guides/sarvam-key) - [Add an ElevenLabs key](/docs/wani/guides/elevenlabs-key) ## Provider links - [Deepgram Console](https://console.deepgram.com/) --- Status: reviewed · reviewed by claude-sonnet-5 Author: claude-sonnet-5
