# Store a Exotel credential

How to store a Exotel API credential in Automix's provider vault today, and why Wani cannot yet place or receive calls through it.

_Takes about 10 minutes._

## Before you start

> **Before you start**
>
> You need a Exotel account with API credentials issued. This guide covers storing that credential in Automix so it is ready; it does not cover placing a call through Exotel, which Wani cannot do yet (see "What this does not do yet" below).

## 1. Get the Account SID, the API key, the API token from Exotel

Sign in to your Exotel account and locate your API credentials. You will need Account SID (your Exotel subdomain account identifier); API key (found under API credentials in your Exotel dashboard); API token (found alongside your API key in your Exotel dashboard). Copy each value; you will not normally be able to view a secret value again once you navigate away.

## 2. Store the credential in Automix

In Settings, open Providers and find Exotel under the telephony category. Paste the value(s) you copied and save. The credential is encrypted at rest and stored per-workspace; it is never shown again in full, only whether one is set.

## 3. There is no live check for this credential yet

Some providers in the same screen have a Verify button that makes a real call to confirm the credential works. Exotel does not -- saving the value stores it, but nothing confirms it is correct until Wani's telephony integration for Exotel exists.

## 4. What this does not do yet

Storing a Exotel credential does not make Wani place or receive calls through Exotel today. Wani's own telephony provider registry recognizes exactly one active carrier, Vobiz; Exotel is not in that registry, so WANI_TELEPHONY_PROVIDER cannot be set to it and no dial attempt will use it. This screen exists so the credential can be captured ahead of that integration landing, not because the integration exists today.

> **Exotel is not a connectable Wani carrier yet**
>
> Wani's telephony provider registry (app/services/telephony.py) lists only Vobiz as an active carrier. A stored Exotel credential is held in reserve, not in use.
