# Add your own Sarvam voice key Bring your own Sarvam API key so Wani's Indian-language voice catalogue uses your account and quota instead of Automix's shared default. _Takes About 10 minutes._ ## Before you start > **Before you start** > > You need a Sarvam account. A free-tier signup is enough to generate an API key. > > [Sarvam console](https://dashboard.sarvam.ai) > **Full multilingual conversation isn't built yet** > > Voice selection and preview work once your key is set. Holding a full spoken conversation in that language additionally needs speech-to-text, which does not exist in Wani today. ## 1. Get your API key from Sarvam Sign in, or sign up, at Sarvam's dashboard. Navigate to the developer or API section and create a new API key. Copy the key immediately and store it securely, treating it with the same care as a password because you will not be able to view it again in full. ## 2. Add the key to your Wani agent Open your Wani agent's settings and locate the Sarvam credentials section. Paste your new API key into the designated field and save the changes. This stores the key for your workspace only; it is never shared with any other workspace on the platform. ## 3. Why Sarvam for Indian languages Wani's voice catalogue for Indian languages is powered directly by Sarvam's own catalogue. Listing and previewing these voices requires a working credential, named SARVAM_API_KEY in this deployment's environment; if a key is missing or invalid, the catalogue for Sarvam will return an empty list that explicitly names the missing credential rather than displaying a guessed or placeholder voice. ## 4. How this fits with Automix's shared key Automix runs a shared Sarvam key (SARVAM_API_KEY, and SARVAM_API_BASE if you are not on the default endpoint) by default so that voice selection works for you even before you configure anything. Once you add your own key, Wani automatically prefers your workspace's key over the shared one. This precedence is automatic and does not require a separate toggle or configuration switch. ## 5. What holding a full conversation still needs Selecting and previewing a voice works today once your key is set. However, holding a full spoken conversation in that language additionally needs speech-to-text, which is not built into Wani yet. You should treat this integration as enabling voice output selection rather than end-to-end conversational AI. > **Voice, not yet full conversation** > > Treat this as voice selection and preview for now. Full spoken back-and-forth in an Indian language needs a speech-to-text capability that does not exist in Wani today. ## 6. Remove your key You can delete your workspace's key at any time from the same settings screen where you added it. Once removed, Wani falls back to Automix's shared key for this provider, ensuring that voice selection continues to work without your personal credential. ## After connecting - Wani's voice catalogue for Indian languages uses your own provider account going forward. - You can remove the workspace key at any time to fall back to the shared credential. ## Next - [Add an ElevenLabs key](/docs/wani/guides/elevenlabs-key) - [Record calls with consent](/docs/wani/guides/record-the-call-and-consent) ## Provider links - [Sarvam console](https://dashboard.sarvam.ai) --- Status: reviewed · reviewed by claude-sonnet-5 Author: qwen3.8-27b
