What it does
Khoji checks a saved list of target keywords against live search results on a schedule and logs the site's position over time, split by device and city where relevant. A simple trend view flags keywords that dropped out of the top results so the owner knows what needs attention.
A spa chain running six branches across Bengaluru has no reliable way to know whether "spa near me" or "couple spa Indiranagar" moved up or down last week, short of someone manually searching Google from a phone every few days and hoping the result matches what a real customer would see. That kind of ad hoc checking catches a problem only after it has already cost bookings.
Rank position tracker checks a saved list of target keywords against live search results on a set schedule and logs the site's position over time, split by device and city where that matters. A trend view flags any keyword that has dropped out of the results the spa cares about, so the owner knows what needs attention this week, not three months from now when someone finally notices bookings have thinned out.
Khoji runs this directly on the platforms your customers already use — no separate app for them to install.
How it works
Add the specific search terms that matter to the business — a service name, a city-based phrase, a branch-specific query — along with the device and location context each one should be checked from, and how often it matters.
A scheduled job queries live search results for every saved keyword through a rank-checking service and records the position, the ranking URL, and any special result formats present at that exact moment in time, city by city.
Each check adds a data point to that keyword's history, so a chart shows movement over weeks rather than a single isolated number that on its own says nothing about direction or what caused it.
A keyword that falls out of the range being tracked, or moves sharply in either direction, is flagged on the dashboard so the owner sees exactly which term needs a look this particular week, before the next one.
Why it matters
A keyword sliding down shows up in the trend view early, giving the spa chain time to investigate before a slow month is already underway.
Checking a phone's search results by hand every few days is replaced by an automatic scheduled check that runs whether or not anyone remembers to do it.
A branch-specific term can be checked from the relevant city, since a national-level check would miss exactly the local variation that matters to a multi-branch business.
The detail
Every position shown here comes from a SERP data API — a paid service that queries search results on the tool's behalf — because Google has no public API for arbitrary rank lookups by any third party. This is why rank tracking is a licensed capability across the industry, not a free lookup anyone could build casually: querying Google at scale without a legitimate provider risks CAPTCHAs and blocking, and a provider handling that at scale carries a real per-check cost.
The position recorded on any given day is also an approximation of what one particular searcher would see, not a universal truth for everyone who searches that term. Google personalises and localises results based on a searcher's location, device, search history, and even the time of day, so two customers searching the identical phrase from two phones in the same city can genuinely see two different rankings. A single daily snapshot from a fixed location and device is the closest practical approximation of a representative result, not a promise of what every visitor sees.
This is worth remembering before treating a single day's number as decisive: rank tracking shows trend and direction reliably over time far more than an exact, singular truth on any one day. A position that dips for one check and recovers on the next is often just the normal noise of Google's results shifting moment to moment, not evidence that something the business did caused a change.

Google personalises and localises search results based on the exact device, location, search history, and time of day of whoever is searching, so no two searchers are guaranteed to see identical results for the same term. The tracker checks from a fixed, consistent location and device to give a comparable baseline over time — it approximates a representative result, it doesn't claim to match what every individual customer sees at every moment.
Checks run on a set schedule rather than continuously, since querying search results at scale carries a real per-check cost through the paid SERP data service behind it. Daily checking gives a useful trend for most small businesses; a keyword that matters enormously in a fast-moving campaign period may warrant closer attention, but continuous real-time checking isn't how any rank-tracking tool, including this one, is built to work.
Short-term noise is normal — Google's results can shift from personalisation, algorithm testing, or simply the natural churn of a competitive search result, none of which requires anything to have changed on your own site. A single day's swing is rarely meaningful on its own; look at the trend across several weeks before concluding that something specific caused a real, lasting change.
Yes — each tracked keyword can be set with a target city or area, so a branch-specific term gets checked from a location relevant to that branch rather than a generic national result that would miss the local variation entirely. A multi-branch business still needs to decide which terms matter per branch, since tracking every possible keyword across every branch adds up in checking cost.
